Home pageRedefining Depression Welcome to "Know Depression”. This is a new site and we will be adding new content every day so please check in on us from time to time and see what is new. It is our hope that you find something within these pages that will make it possible for you to get to know, and to understand depression the way that we believe that it should be, as an inherent defense mechanism, and, a vital component of the central nervous system (CNS). Based on new research and theory of bio-psychodynamics, we believe depression is nature’s way of protecting the human body from emotional-physical exhaustion (burnout) that if left unchecked would eventuate in death. Ignorance of the value of depression can lead a person to accept a life of adverse medications and therapy. This is where we come in to educate you about the positive aspects of depression by showing you why you should appreciate this vital inherent protector of the body and mind, and why you should embrace it and not fear it. Looking at depression as an inherent defense mechanism raises many new questions and challenges how we view mental illnesses in particular to mood disorders such as, manic and chronic depression and their correlates. Whenever we have a traumatic event, it is natural that we become depressed, and when this traumatic event is met thereafter with another equal, greater, or even a lesser degree of negative affect, it would be natural again that our depression would compound. Most people depress naturally and in balance during natural sleep periods. It is noted; that during depressive episodes sleep is a factor that is common among all people. Most people cannot afford to sleep as we all need to work at jobs to survive and we need to remain responsible to our personal obligations of daily activities such as taking care of a family and keeping the home in order. This is why it is paramount that we know depression in its true form, and to do this we must first redefine depression as we are attempting to do at this site. We hope that you will become a member of this site and help us promote emotional health and assist us in educating all people about the true meaning and value of this vital component of the human make-up and design. As a member of this site, you will also be helping to eliminate the "stigma” attached to mental illness. I am a father of three wonderful kids and I began researching human nature to find ways to protect my children from the negative impact of common human cruelty. I had no idea this would lead me to where I am today. This research and theory of bio-psychodynamics stands to change drastically the way we view, treat and diagnose what is categorized "mental illness’, and now I ask you to help us with this enormous endeavor. Please show your support by becoming a memeber and contributing to our forum, and remember, depression is real but it is not a "mental illness”.
Sincerely, Joseph Richard Crant
